A lot of things have changed ever since Miss Rona came to visit and decided to stay. This includes how you renew your driver’s license too. If before this we have to bersusah payah queueing at the post office, UTC or JPJ;  sekarang no need.

In case you didn’t get the memo (like admin), you can now renew your driving license online through the MYEG website. This is definitely great given the ongoing pandemic situation.

Just make sure you have valid car insurance/ motorcycle insurance when you’re out and about lah. If that also expired, you can renew it on Loanstreet. You can also renew your road tax together. Don't forget to make a price comparison and get quotes for FREE!

What's covered in this article?

If your driver’s license expired way before the date mentioned, here’s how you can cepat-cepat renew it online

1. Visit MyEG website. Click on the Driving License Renewal (CDL) button.

2. Do make sure you have the right picture.

If not, they will not process it. A letter of notification from MYEG will be issued for you to update your CDL at the nearest JPJ counter. Take note that you may choose to use the current photo. But, if you’ve had a lockdown glow up and need a photo update, just make sure it has a white background before you upload it (like the example above).

3. Fill up details needed.

For the renewal period, you can choose from 1 to 5 years. This depends on your budget lah. Here’s the cost for license renewal:

Validity Period Cost
1 Years RM 30
3 Years RM 90
5 Years RM 150

As for the collection method, you can choose to collect it at JPJ or the post office if you want to save yourself some monies. But, it’s pandemic, both of the offices are closed, so just go for the delivery option. Plus, it kinda defeats the whole online purpose, you know. Check out the delivery charges below:

4. Lastly, confirm your details and make the payment.

So, what happens when you forget to renew your driving license?

If caught, you kena saman lor. The amount that you pay will be based on how long your driver’s license has expired as below:

  • 1 – 15 days: RM 150
  • 16 – 30 days: RM 200
  • 31 – 60 days: RM 300

Just in case you haven't renewed your expired driving license for 3 years and more, you can appeal for the renewal with valid reasons, e.g. stay overseas, jailed or hospitalised. If not, YOUR LICENSE WILL BE COMPLETELY INVALID. You will be issued an eRayuan letter to obtain the “L” driving license from any JPJ office. Basically, the whole process of getting a driving license. Yes, including the driving test. Nak ke?

And while you're at it, don't forget to renew your insurance & road tax as well!
