So, it’s time to send your kid to school. Perhaps you had considered sending your kids to an international school, for multiple reasons (that one you tap chest, ask appetite la). You must have muttered to yourself, “Man, these schools are super expensive eh?”

1. International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL)

Established in 1965, ISKL boasts a state-of-the-art campus in Ampang Hilir. Over 1,800 students from 65 countries have been catered to in the school, and it’s also the longest-running World International Baccalaureate School in Malaysia, having offered the curriculum since 1989. The school also promotes a flexible curriculum, where students are able to choose those that are best suited to their abilities, interests and goals.

  • Age Groups Offered: Early Childhood (3 to 4 years old), Elementary School (5 to 10 years old, Middle School (11 to 13 years old), High School (14 to 18 years old)

2. Mont’ Kiara International School (M’KIS)



Located in the heart of Mont Kiara on a single campus, M’KIS is one of the few schools in Malaysia that carry the North American school’s syllabus. They predominantly cater to expats’ families, but that doesn’t mean you can’t apply, yeah! You can join them in their diverse student demographic of more than 50 countries!

3. The British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BISKL)

Established in 2009, BISKL offers schooling from as young as 2 years old. Students come from 60 nationalities and can benefit from collaborations with the world’s best organisations which include MIT and UNICEF. Being part of the Nord Anglia Education School system, students from BISKL also get to connect with over 70,000 students from British International Schools around the world.

4. Sri KDU International School

Founded in 2011, the school is one of the international schools in the country that provides the IGCSE curriculum as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. You are also allowed to choose between the national or international curriculum within the same campus. 

  • Price Range: RM41,985 to RM63,600 per annum
  • Age Groups Offered: Primary (5 to 11 years old), Secondary (11 to 16 years old)

5. Alice Smith School

The first-ever British international school in Malaysia has been here since 1946 and is also a parent-owned international school in Malaysia. It has 2 campuses, for primary students in Jalan Bellamy, and the secondary in Taman Equine. The secondary school campus’ classrooms are built with mainly glass, so students can use it as a writing surface to outline their ideas before putting them into paper. Pretty cool, right?

6. Gardens International School (GIS)

Founded in 1951, Gardens International School is one of the oldest and most distinguished international schools in Malaysia. With over 2,000 students, GIS is also the biggest co-ed school in Malaysia. The school also has a strong alumni network, who provide assistance and mentorship to students under their THRIVE programme.

7. HELP International School (HIS)

The school is rather new to the scene, only established in 2015, but it has over 1,200 students under its wing already. Younger students get to enjoy a bilingual programme during their pre-school and Year 1 terms, where classes will be taught in both English and Mandarin. 

  • Price Range: RM21,830 to RM50,000  RM23,496 to RM50,904 per annum
  • Age Groups Offered: Pre-school (3 to 5 years old), Primary (5 to 11 years old), Secondary (11 to 16 years old), Sixth Form (17 to 18 years old)
  • Syllabus Offered: IGCSE, A-Levels
  • Facilities: Cookery, design and technology labs, art studios, makerspace (equipped with 3D printers, greenscreen recording areas) outdoor sports arena, performing arts theatre, dance studio, multi-purpose hall, playground areas.

8. R.E.A.L International School

Founded in 1986 as Sekolah Sang Suria, the school now has 3 campuses in Cheras, Shah Alam and Johor. They are one of the only 2 schools in Malaysia that have been certified by Cambridge, UK to run the Cambridge IGCSE Practical Science Subject. The school also has a national school branch that runs the Malaysian education syllabus, which means you can also take PT3 and SPM. 

  • Price Range: RM19,280 to RM33,010  RM19,280 to RM33,010 per annum
  • Age Groups Offered: Primary (5 to 11 years old), Secondary (12 to 17 years old)
  • Syllabus Offered: IGCSE

9. Taylor’s International School

Have you heard of Taylor’s Lakeside University? Well, they have international schools too, and it’s been here for almost 30 years, believe it or not! Previously known as Sekolah Sri Garden in 1991, Taylor’s International School currently has 2 campuses, located in Kuala Lumpur and Puchong. Students of TIS also have the advantage of a smooth transition to tertiary education, via their network of Taylor’s College and Taylor’s University.

  • Price Range: RM15,540 to RM45,690 per annum
  • Age Groups Offered: Early Years (3 to 5 years old), Primary (5 to 11 years old), Secondary (12 to 17 years old)
  • Syllabus Offered: IGCSE

10. SAYFOL International School

The school has been around since 1985 and has been the alma mater of 60 nationalities. SAYFOL also provides one-to-one support where needed and encourages a student-centred and holistic approach to teaching and learning. SAYFOL International School is also one of the few in the country to provide early childhood education from as young as 2 years old!

  • Price Range: RM12,600 to RM29,650 per annum
  • Age Groups Offered: Kindergarten (2.5 to 5 years old), Primary (5 to 11 years old), Secondary (12 to 17 years old), A-Level (17 to 18 years old)
  • Syllabus Offered: IGCSE, A-Level
  • Facilities: ICT and science labs, multipurpose sports court, performing arts theatre
  • Academic Achievements: 100% passing rate in IGCSE, A-Level
  • Notable Alumni: Deborah Henry (Miss Universe Malaysia 2011), Vishen Lakhiani (Co-Founder of Mindvalley)

Don’t worry! You can always enquire about the rebates or scholarships that are available for these schools. For example, Gardens International School offers students a 3% rebate on Tuition Fees for Terms 2 and 3 if the annual Tuition Fee is paid in full on or before the first day of Term 1.
