Some of you might be aware that Malaysia's local stock market has recently been on the rise (as seen by the benchmark
FBM KLCI and the
FBM Emas Index). Despite it being in its prime, M’sians, especially investors, are anxious about the volatility of the stock market when it reopens after the upcoming 15th General election (GE15).
As we speak, there are no answers set in stone. But, we can, however, speculate what would happen if party ‘x’ wins.
Setting aside the temporary volatility (and any political rumours), here are some stocks that could be impacted by GE15 and why:

MyEG Services Bhd |
- Is a concessionaire for various Malaysian Government agencies and runs E-government services.
- The Employees Provident Fund, which is under the Ministry of Finance, holds 6.21% of the shares.
- Dr Norraesah Mohammad, who is the Executive Chairman, has worked in the Ministry of Trade and Industry. She also was a senator and a chairman for the Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia, and a council member of UMNO

Datasonic Group Bhd |
- Had government contracts before.
- Datuk Abu Hanifah Noordin, who is the executive chairman and CEO reportedly took a bribe of RM6 million from DSG director Chew Ben Ben (who is also his personal advisor) and insisted that the amount was a donation for Barisan Nasional and UMNO.
- DSG was listed on the Bursa Exchange, thanks to the government, and wanted to ‘thank them’, according to Noordin.

Matang Bhd |
- Huaren Holdings is one of the largest shareholders of Matang Bhd, which is part of the Chinese Malaysian Association (MCA), a political party that is also a member of Barisan Nasional.

Star Media Group |
- The Chinese Malaysian Association (MCA) is a major shareholder.
- The company is quite successful and is a major source of income for Huaren.
- The company is also one of the many media companies that have set up a partnership with the China Media Group, which is a Chinese state media company.

Fajarbaru Builder Group Bhd |
- Huaren Holdings is a shareholder.
- May indirectly be affected if Huaren Holdings Sdn Bhd suffers changes.

Jiankun International Bhd |
- Lim Siang Chai, the company’s Deputy Executive Chairman, is the former Deputy Finance minister, as well as a former member of MCA.
- Saiful Nizam, son-in-law of current Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is the Executive Director.

Central Global Bhd |
- Chiew Hian Tat, the group’s Managing Director is a former Finance deputy minister and candidate for MCA and holds a 26.36% stake.

Media Prima Bhd |
- Jag Capital, owned by Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, who is a former Finance minister as well as a member of UMNO, has the second largest shares in the company.

Pecca Group Bhd |
- MCA’s Huaren emerged as a substantial shareholder after acquiring 6.18% of the company.
- 48.47% controlled by MRZ Leather Holdings Sdn Bhd — the investment vehicle of founder and group managing director Datuk Teoh Hwa Cheng and his family.

C.I Holdings Bhd |
- JAG Capital, owned by Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, a member of UMNO, holds a 32.96% stake.

KUB Malaysia Bhd |
- Chairman Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani raised his stake in the company to nearly 33%, held through JAG Capital.

Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd |
- Government-owned (UMNO) mouthpiece media; may see its stocks taking a hit.

While this is not an exhaustive list, we definitely recommend y’all keep a close eye on these stocks. Especially for those who are keen to start investing or are investing at the moment, this list might help you make informed decisions.
Side note, look out at other stocks as well. Some may surprise you when the election results are announced. So, be on your feet, and roll with the punches!
