When it comes to spending money, we, Malaysians, love discounts and free gifts. Our favourite lines: “Got free gift ah?” or “Can discount a bit?” Honestly, we don’t see it as a bad thing. We’re just committed to getting the best value in anything we buy.

And, if you’re one of the gung-ho deal hunters, you may already try to get the best bang out of your ringgit using an e-wallet to collect rewards, kan? Hope you’re using GrabPay or PayLater by Grab to pay because you can get more rewards and earn up to 1.5% back wherever you spend.

Read on to know how to maximise GrabPay or PayLater by Grab to reap those rewards kaw-kaw.

What's covered in this article?

1. Use GrabPay to pay for your monthly expenses

FYI, since the launch of GrabPay and GrabRewards, Grab has collaborated with various partners to let their users (you) transact with GrabPay wallet and earn GrabRewards, whether it’s online, at a physical store or in-app across Grab services.

So if you tend to “Grab” everywhere and order frequent food deliveries, you should also start using GrabPay when spending on everyday items such as groceries, petrol or bills. Why? Because this is usually where you’d spend a significant amount of your money. With this, you could accumulate more GrabRewards and enjoy more great deals!

Admin only just started paying phone internet bills using GrabPay and gain some GrabRewards there. Imagine if admin have started this since early of the year, admin would’ve accumulated a lot more just by paying the bill.

2. Pay later and still earn rewards

Not enough cash in your GrabPay wallet, no problem. Just switch your Grab payment method to PayLater for your Grab spends and get up to 3 GrabRewards points per RM1 spent. If you’re lucky, there are also some exclusive PayLater deals for you to enjoy.

Or, you could also use the payment method to your advantage.

Recently, admin bought some food via GrabFood that cost RM63.40 in total. But instead of using GrabPay, admin use PayLater by Grab to get the RM15 off deal. Duit jimat, GrabRewards also dapat.

What’s great about this service is that there’s no interest, no upfront costs, and no fees, as long as you pay on time lah. And, you have the flexibility of payment -  you can pay now, next month or in instalments.

Do note that PayLater by Grab is available for other Grab services e.g Grab rides, GrabMart and more!

3. Earn up to 1.5% value back with GrabUnlimited

We’re sure you heard the news, that from July 2022 onwards, the entire GrabRewards programme will be simplified. No more tier-based multipliers.

So if you want more value back for your money, we recommend you subscribe to the new GrabUnlimited. With it, you’ll be able to earn up to 1.5% value back as compared to Non-GrabUnlimited subscribers (0.5% value back).

What does this mean? For a clearer picture, refer to the table below:

As a subscriber, you’ll earn 1.5 GrabRewards for every RM1 spent.

Now, you must’ve thought, “Wait a minute. That’s slightly lesser than what I got for being a Platinum member — 3 GrabRewards for every RM1”.

Okay, true. But, it’s not as significant if you continue to spend and earn accordingly with every GrabFood order. You’d also spend lesser GrabRewards when redeeming vouchers.

And, on top of that, you’d also enjoy other perks like:

  • 10x up to 50% off GrabFood Hot Deals

  • 50x RM3 off GrabFood delivery

  • 10x RM3 off GrabMart delivery

  • 10x 15% GrabFood self-pickup (capped at RM12 per order, no minimum spend)

  • 1x RM5 off Grab ride from any Malaysian airport

All of this for only RM4.90 a month. This might sound like just another marketing gimmick to you. But actually, the potential saving is far greater than the initial upfront cost — you could save up to RM300. And, it doesn’t matter if you’re a loyal or a borderline frequent Grab user, the free vouchers alone already mean you can start saving from your first GrabFood order.

Admin had also subscribed to GrabUnlimited just to test if this actually saves money. So far, with just 4 orders from GrabFood and GrabMart in a month, admin is able to save RM13. Okay, RM8.10 if you minus the subscription fee. It might not look hefty, but the ROI is at 165%.

Give it a try test cuba. If you feel that it’s not for you. Just cancel the subscription, and no charges will be imposed.

4. Offset your bills with GrabRewards

Remember all those GrabRewards you’ve accumulated patiently? In case you’re unfamiliar, you can redeem your GrabRewards for exciting deals and discounts in their in-app catalogue. But, that’s not all.

GrabRewards are genuinely rewarding because it is as good as cash. You can use it to offset part of your bill with GrabRewards at any GrabPay merchants if you at least spend RM4. Just like how you would use your Grab Rewards to offset your GrabFood orders or Grab rides. It’s actually even better than the cashback credit cards.

Nothing beats the feeling of being able to redeem great deals in-store and online just from doing everyday things. As mentioned earlier, lagi syiok if you’re a GrabUnlimited subscriber because you’ll spend lesser GrabRewards to redeem vouchers!

To add, you can also make a donation using GrabRewards to help those in need. Just check out their donation catalogue and help make the world a better place for the unfortunate ones.
