Why Your 2022 Feng Shui Is NOT Attracting Money

Feng Shui, which literally means “the way of wind and water”, is the ancient Chinese art of arranging space or objects to obtain balance and harmony. Used for almost 3000 years and counting, the art studies the flow of energy, or chi.

Good “chi” means good fortune. More good chi, means more good fortune!

If you’re at that stage where you are desperate to make your wallet fatter, perhaps Feng Shui could work. CHUP! But Feng Shui is probably just for the Chinese, right?

Wrong.

Contrary to popular belief, there are “Feng Shui” equivalents in different cultures!

In India, there is Vastu Shastra, the ancient Indian science of architecture which finds the most conducive space for an individual, using the nature of a place to its advantage to bring in more health, wealth, prosperity and happiness. Kanso, on the other hand, is the Japanese equivalent, which focuses on helping one be in harmony (or in their words, to be in total zen) with the space they’re in.

Either way you look at it, they’re all the same, it’s just that Feng Shui is more popular (don’t fight us please, Japan and India).

What's covered in this article?

Anyway, before you start buying that golden frog, ask yourself, “How does Feng Shui bring more wealth? Got proof ah?”

Well, scientifically, there isn’t.

We did some digging and we couldn’t find any recent studies, but we did find out that a research done in 2010 concluded that there is not enough scientific evidence to prove that Feng Shui has a direct effect on a person or a building, as compared to environmental studies of spaces and how it affects one’s psyche.

*sad trombone noises*

So, why is Feng Shui so popular compared to a more practical approach? The answer found in the research; really, really good marketing and an abundance of accessible guides. Anyone can walk into a bookstore and find a Feng Shui guidebook. Google the right keywords, and you’ll find someone posting about what Feng Shui practices you can apply to help attract money to you.

Pergi ke sana, ke sini, got Feng Shui. Based on these findings, Feng Shui practitioners are perceived to be able to attract money.

How does Feng Shui help attract wealth, then?

While Feng Shui doesn’t actually have anything solid to back itself up with when it comes to how it can attract wealth, there have been stories of its effectiveness. Donald Trump is a great example, as he hired Feng Shui master Pun-Yin for advice when he was building the Trump Tower. That was in 1995, and look at where he is now - more orange, a successful business person, has a hot wife, was the host of The Apprentice, and the 45th President of the US of A.

Let’s get closer to home, where KLCC and KL Towers were also built with elements of Feng Shui.

“Where got?”, we’re sure you’re asking.

Look at that large body of water in front of Suria KLCC. Water in Feng Shui is connected to wisdom, intuition, and fluidity. It is said that by adding more water, it can help to boost social connections, or welcome more wealth and cash flow. That being said, people flock to KLCC at any opportunity, right?

Cha….ching.

Okay, it kinda works, but there’s actually a huge misconception of what the vast majority believes Feng Shui actually is

Feng Shui expert Joey Yap explains Feng Shui as this “relationship between a person and it’s environment”. There is good and bad energy flowing everywhere we go.

“When you go to a place that is sad, dull or gloomy, you feel unproductive, and get a bad vibe out of it. However, when you go to a place that is bright and lively, you tend to feel the same way as well”, he adds.

Sure, there are products that supposedly help you attract wealth in Feng Shui, like a money vase, but that is just an option. There are actually many types of Feng Shui. In some cases, it’s as simple as following one’s state of mind, such as not making an investment during a bad day, as it means that you are not in the right place mentally to make a good decision.

When applying it to one’s personal space, it’s as simple as a little spring cleaning and rearranging (which can be used as an excuse to buy new furniture), to feel good and increase overall productivity, which then translates to positive events that bring in money!

Should we believe in Feng Shui to attract wealth?

There is absolutely no harm in trying Feng Shui to increase your wealth. You might not even need to fork out money to do it! Best, kan?

Over the years, Feng Shui has evolved into a way of life. Simple, daily, practices can have elements of Feng Shui, which then snowball into something bigger in the long run.

As mentioned earlier, the right manipulation of space and objects can result in an abundant flow of good “chi”. Cliff Tan, an interior designer/architect famous on Tiktok is a great example of how you can use simple Feng Shui practices to bring in good “chi”.

If you want to make it more relevant to the practice, referring to your individual bagua map (a Feng Shui energy map that is used to divide your space into nine separate areas, each with a certain theme). Placing items or furniture in the right places, bringing in colours that increase productivity are all elements of Feng Shui that can help one increase their wealth.

Just don’t expect results to come in instantly. Gotta be smart about that as well, yeah.

Just like a successful businessman, who used Feng Shui to help accumulate his wealth, Dato' Sia Hok Kiang would say, “Feng shui is not black magic. It cannot amass wealth for people. If a person decides to be complacent or starts to gamble away his wealth after his success, no feng shui in the world can help him.”

So, what do non-believers do?

It’s really simple; hard work, correct investments, and the right mindset.

While this practical approach sounds extremely dry and boring, it works! It’s all about knowing how to save money, buying the right shares, and getting the right information from credible sources and daily reading, like you can do on Loanstreet’s Learning Centre.

Psychologically, the belief is that the attraction of wealth does not come while we sit and wait, rather, to find the source of attraction ourselves. As many successful people, like Bruce Lee, Bruce Springsteen, even the Dalai Lama would say, you make your own luck

To increase wealth, logically speaking, you’d need to make the right moves to be able to obtain it in the first place. Takkan we sit down, shake our legs a bit, and money falls out of the sky, kan?

If that was the case, we’d be millionaires by now.

Take a case from success stories, where they tell you that you’d have to expand your network, be an opportunity magnet, be flexible with your business activities or work to be able to accumulate your wealth! These steps are scientifically proven, by the way. Successful, wealthy people grasp on to that opportunity handed to them and use it to their advantage.

We would highly recommend that you stay away from grasping opportunities given by Get Rich Quick schemes like MLM, though.

So, can Feng Shui help make more money or not?

You can see that there’s a mixed bag of results when it comes to whether Feng Shui is a sure-fire way to make more money. The verdict? It’s best just to take this with a pinch of salt.

The best way to attract wealth is to find something that you’re comfortable with following and make sure that you stick to it. It could be Feng Shui, a little spring cleaning, or calling up that business card you have in your wallet. Of course, all of these need to come with effort.

Hopefully, that will set you on the right track in your quest to make that extra dollar!
